Siding Progress

It rained a bit this morning, but by the time I was ready to get outside, the sun had come out and things were drying up.

Got the siding almost done on that north wall. Still have the soffit to deal with, but I’m ready for supper and bed. Hubby got rained out yesterday afternoon, so he came home for the night. He’s back on the job today, and will be home tomorrow afternoon. That means I have all tomorrow to get things done before he comes home. Will have to get a load of dishes done to, he hates dirty dishes in the sink.

It was a bit windy out today, so worked out of the shop. Made for lots of trips back and forth, but I can use the exercise. Angel kept me company most of the day. I did work on her kennel a bit, but couldn’t find the fence post pounder. I didn’t look all that hard, but will look more seriously tomorrow. Still have to close the chickens in for the night (the rest of the chores are done). They don’t like going in until its dark out, so it will be a bit longer.

Putting up Wallpaper

Hubby left for work around 8:30 Monday morning. Then I got busy with the wallpaper. First thing was to set up a work area. Usually I’ll use a table, but since I don’t have one, the upper level worked just fine.

This was prepasted paper. I measured and cut the first piece. Rolled it up inside out, then placed it in the water and pulled it out so the finished side was down. Then I folded it over to “book”.

I used the outside corner as my plumb line (and yes, it is “plumb”) and hung the first strip.

This wallpaper doesn’t really have a “match” as there is nothing on the cut edge to really line up. However I wanted the motifs to line up, so had to use a level across them to get each successive strip to match up. That was a bit of a drag, but eventually I got finished with the first wall.

At least I didn’t have a corner to deal with. We’ll eventually box in the vent, making it look like a wooden column is in the corner. There will be a matching column on the other end of the short wall, hiding the jack studs that support the header for the opening between the dining and living room.

Here is the short wall. Hopefully I’ll get to the tiling one day soon. . .

After that was done, I still had a bit of time in the afternoon, so I installed the three lights on the upper wall. These are not what I really wanted, but I could not find what I really wanted! (Looked online too, guess they are just not in style right now). My hubby really likes these ones, but agreed if I find something I like better (when they come out with new styles) I can replace them.

They match the ceiling fan in the living room, but don’t go that well with the chandelier. But it sure looks better than the holes in the wall.

I didn’t feel well yesterday, so stayed home and actually slept in. Now I have to catch up on my work (the stuff I get paid to do). Maybe I’ll be tiling THIS weekend – either that or finishing with the siding.

Another new toy

Today I was going to start working on the tiles. I had borrowed a small wet saw from a coworker, and had hubby put in a new blade. Then I filled it with water and hubby turned it on to see how it would work. Unfortunatly for him, hubby didn’t lower the guard before flipping the switch. This works with the “splash method” and the blade spins counter clockwise. With the guard up, and the blade spinning up and toward the front, it spun a nice stream of water right toward the front. Hubby was not happy with his “bath”. Then he tried making a cut, and decided this little tool was just too much of a toy. It also spread water all over the place, and had no provision for any to drain back into the tub. Made quite a mess LOL!!

We had looked at a few cutters yesterday, so we made another trip to Sioux Falls while the turkey was in the oven. Hubby decided the $170 one was not good enough, so we spent $300 and got this one. I just told myself that it would cost a lot more than $300 to pay someone else to install the tiles.

It’s pretty nice. It is still messy, so I’ll do the cutting outside. This made a much smoother cut, and should be much easier since I am making diagonal cuts.

And here is a picture of the border I got up yesterday. Still have the other three walls to do.

Ordered Chicks this Easter Morning

They should arrive around May 9th. We're getting them a bit later this year because my hubby does not expect his work to wrap up until mid June now. Hopefully he not still be working out of town by the time the chickens are big enough to butcher.

I got 15 meat birds (males)

The rest are females
3 Araucanas
2 Golden Laced Wyandottes
2 Buff Rocks
2 Barred Rocks
2 Silver Laced Wyandottes

The squash is done cooking, so time for me to get back to making pies. Today I plan on making pumpkin (squash), egg custard, and Apple. Though I have not decided if I want to make a regular apple pie or try a crumble type topped one.

At least I found a box of stuffing mix in the cupboard - forgot about buying one when I got the turkey. Only me and my daughter really like stuffing, and she won't be here (boo). Both my hubby and son say they don't especially care for stuffing, but I notice they both always have some anyway.

I did get the border up on one wall in the living room last night. It looked nice last night, but I have not checked this morning. Had some trouble with the adhesive, so decided I would wait and see how it dried before doing the rest.

Still plan on messing with the floor tile today, but it rained quite a bit last night, so don't think I will try doing any siding - it will be too muddy on that side of the house today. I have tomorrow off (floating holiday) so maybe I can work on it then.
