March 19, 2006

I've not been real good about posting remodel updates - mostly because nothing has been happening. I am making progress -slow but sure. Got the second coat up, and will be working on the third during the week. Usually that is enough for most areas, then I'll touch up here and there where it needs it.

Here is what the dining area looks like. That upper corner is a real pain. It's going to be a bugger to paint once the ceiling is sprayed.

We still haven't figured out exactly how we will put in the stove pipe. Should have done it before we put up the sheetrock, but then we'd have a big hole in the roof to deal with during the winter. It may be more work this way, but we can do it once the weather is a lot warmer. Besides, I would really like it to be directly above the stove, and we won't know where that is until we have the stove.

Here is a picture of the bay window area. That will take some doing to get it smoothed out. That special cove tape stuff we bought seems to be just the ticket for those odd angle corners.

Right now I've got a fire going. It's cold and windy out. Funny how not long ago, 30 deg would have seemed warm. Average for this time of the year is about 45, and today the wind is blowing so that makes it worse. We didn't get any snow yet, seems to be staying south and west of us this time.

Nikki is doing a good job keeping the chair warm for me. When I have the fan on, it blows warm air right towards her. Cats can always find the warmest place to sleep.

I think I've got several pictures of Nikki like this.

Back to the remodeling - I'm on track with the sheetrock work. Told Hubby to plan on spraying the ceilings when he is home next Sunday. Then in the afternoon, we can lay the subfloor, and I can start tiling!!!! I may even get a start on the wall tile if I get the sheetrock done early. Don't really expect to - but I'm always optimistic.

We bought the tile for the floor back in Jan, before Hubby went back to work. The money is nice, but progress on the house sure slowed down to a crawl. I'll be finishing up the budget at work this next week, and that should cut down on my stress, so maybe I'll have more energy to work on the house in the evenings. I plan on starting to carpool after we go on day light savings time. I'll be riding with my boss and another manager. I expect it will work fine, and I sure like the idea of putting less than 20,000 miles on my car each year - I currently put on about 40,000. The three of us live withing 15 miles of each other, about 80 miles from work.

I guess I'm rambling - probalby because I should get back to the sheetrock!

I've been working on the sheetrock off and on today (more off than on thought). My hubby came home around 11am. It was too cold to drill, so they put in thier 2 hours "show up" time doing maintenance, and then headed out. We went to the bank, dropped off some letters at the post office. Got chicken and dog food. Stopped at Sears to look at thier rototillers (I think I got hubby talked into letting me get one). Then headed to Cabela's and got some shooting related stuff (no guns though). We then headed accross the street to Menards and picked up two buckets of premixed sheetrock mud.Next stop was Wallmart to get cheese. Yup, they are the only store in this area that carries decent chedder. SD may have good beef, but they don't know what good cheese is (makes me almost miss WI).

Then we picked up a couple of batteries for Hubby's 3/4 Chev desiel. He's tired of it not starting, and finally broke down and got new batteries. He replaced all the glowplugs earlier this winter, so when it's got a charge, it pops right off.

We were going to head to the grocery store, but decided we already had a car full. So we headed back home.

Right now Hubby is out shoot at geese. He's already got two (they are in my laundry tub, so I had to use the bathtub to wash my tools).

I'm hearing lots of shooting - he'll be happy even if he doesn't get any more.

I tried Mud's trick with the dishwasher soap. Seems to work well, though I'm not sure if I'm adding the right amount. Just a little bit drizzled over the top, and then mixed in well. It does seem to help, but I don't really care of the smell. I prefer unscented stuff, but I like using Dawn, and have not seen it in unscented.

I considered working really hard and possibly having the ceilings ready for my hubby to spray sunday afternoon. But that would be a real push, so I think I'll just plan on having that done next weekend. There is an auction Hubby wants to go to tomorrow morning anyway.

Back to the rototiller - anybody want to buy a 5 year old Troybilt Bronco? Works as designed, just not well for the way I garden.
