More new walls

During the next week, Hubby installed braces above the interior wall to help support the roof.

He also put up the plastic vents and the hurricane clips.

By the next Saturday, things were ready for me to start putting up insulation. Since Hubby has such a bad reaction to that stuff, I do that part. But he kept busy – he decided this would be a good time to finally move the rest of the electrical wires and take out the old panel. We had installed a new main panel in the new basement, and had run wires to the old panel, making it a secondary box. Since we have all electric heat, we actually need more room than a standard 200 amp box has. So we installed a secondary panel in the hallway by the second bath (which isn’t done yet) and ran all the heating circuits to that one. Saved on wire too, as this way we didn’t have to junction them so they would reach to the new panel in the basement. Hubby sure is glad to have that project done.

While he worked on wiring, I worked on insulation.

By Sunday morning, we were ready to work on the exterior walls. We were still in the midst of the heat wave, but it was only about 102, so it could have been worse.

Sunday morning dawned with heavy fog. I thought it looked neat.

When Hubby got up, we got to work. First thing was removing the door (we had just put this door in last summer) and removing the old Build Right stuff (the stuff that comes off in pieces).

Once that was done, we built the new wall section.

Then we braced up the ceiling and started to remove the studs.

We sure had stuff spread all over the place.

Hubby had to fix the sill where the door had sat, and that turned out to be a lot more work than he expected, but we were finally able to get the new wall in place.

We put up the sheathing, and house wrapped it and called it quits. With the heat, we were really whipped. We figured we’d install the windows at a later date. At this point, we didn’t have an exterior door to this area anymore. This final picture was taken after we installed the door, but I included it here to show what the front of the house looked like after we got it wrapped up.
