The Water Heater's new home

The water heater is in its new home. If this big thing ever goes out, we’re going to get a smaller one. Not much clearance, but we measured to make sure it would fit. And it did, but not by much

It wasn’t real fun getting down the steps. With a large round object, there isn’t much to hang on to. We tied ropes around it and managed to get it down the steps. Once in the basement, we realized we needed to turn the heater so the base could be set on the pad. Moved stuff around and made room, and there was just enough in the cellar for me to get in the corner with the front end and hubby could get in and swing around the back end. Got it set on the pad, and tipped it in place. Went pretty easy, only a bit of shifting to get it to slip under the joists.

Then it was a trip to Menards for some fittings and I picked up the tile for the dining room (it was on sale – gotta try to save where we can LOL!!). Got home around 3 pm, and got back to work. Because there is very little clearance, hubby had to use a lot of elbows to get the waterlines where they should be. He did the hot, and was working on the cold when I went down to check on progress. (I was tearing out stuff in the area where the water heater had been). He was showing me where he was going to run the cold line, when I reminded him there was a toilet going in that area and we would have vent/drain lines to work around. He wasn’t real happy about that, but did admit it was better to deal with that now than to have hooked up the water lines only to discover we could not hook up the toilet at a later date.

So that took some more figuring, and a lot of time. Took a break for supper, and got back at it. Got all the lines hooked up, and only had one leak. Must be a hundred connections down there, but that is mostly right at the heater. The rest sure looks nice compared to the mess it was. Now we finally have all the old lines replaced.

This is what it looked like before we started replacing water and drain lines.

Here is what it looks like right now. There will be more when we hook up the second bathroom, but that will be a while in the future.

Was about 11:30 pm when we finally had the water turned back on. No hot water for the night, so we washed up with cold, and headed to bed.

Saturday we got up early and attempted to get some venison for the freezer, but the deer didn’t cooperate. Got home around 1 pm, rested and then got back to work on the house. I finished gutting out the old water heater room, and hubby put up the rest of the joists for the ceiling over the hall. He wired the overhead light, so I can put up insulation today.
